Sergey D. Knyazev

Born on February 15, 1959 in Pavlovsky Posad, Moscow region.

In 1981, he graduated with honors from the law faculty of the Far Eastern State University with a degree in Law.

He studied at the full-time target postgraduate school of the law faculty of Leningrad University.

In 1985, under the scientific supervision of Professor B. V. Dreyshev, he defended his Cand. of Law degree thesis on the topic: «Legal support for planning integrated urban development (administrative and legal aspect)».

Since 1985, he has been teaching at the faculty of law of the Far Eastern National University (Far Eastern National University) as an assistant and senior lecturer at the Department of state and international law.

Since 1990 – associate Professor of Constitutional and international law,

since 1996 – Professor of the Department of State and administrative law,

since 1989 to 1990 – Deputy Dean of the law faculty, FENU,

since 1990 to 1995, the Dean of the law faculty, FENU.

Since 1995-first Deputy Director, head of the Department of state and administrative law of the law Institute of FENU.

In 1999, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic:  «Electoral law in the legal system of the Russian Federation (problems of theory and practice)».

He is the author (co-author) of more than 370 publications on various issues of constitutional, administrative, municipal and other branches of law.

From 1995 to 2008, he headed the election Commission of the Primorsky territory. According to the decision of the Duma of the Primorsky territory, he led a working group on the preparation of the draft Charter of the Primorsky territory, which was adopted on September 12, 1995.

On October 15, 2008, at the 232nd session of the Federation Council, he was appointed a judge of the constitutional Court of Russia on the recommendation of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev. Combines judicial positions with teaching activities; the head of the Department of Constitutional and administrative law of the Far Eastern Federal University and a Professor of the Department of Administrative and Financial law of Saint Petersburg National University.

Honored lawyer of the Russian Federation. Honored scientist of the Russian Federation. He was awarded the medal of the order of merit for the Fatherland, II degree.

He is fond of basketball. In 2007-2008, he was the Chairman of the Board of the Spartak Primorye basketball club (Vladivostok), which plays in the super League «A» of the Russian basketball Championship.

He is married and has two daughters and a son.
